Fantastic Visit to Forge Mill Farm

On Friday 13th June, we had the pleasure of visiting Forge Mill Farm for the Farming Fortnight for Schools event. All of our learners did fantastically well and represented MEA brilliantly — they truly made us proud!

The visit provided students with a fun, hands-on learning experience beyond the classroom. It supported key curriculum areas including:

  • Communication & Interaction: Throughout the day, students expressed preferences, listened carefully, and took part in shared experiences. They interacted with peers, staff, and animals, helping to develop both verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

  • Relationships & Teamwork: Working in pairs and groups, students shared tasks, took turns, and supported one another. Feeding animals and joining guided walks helped build cooperation and strengthen relationships.

  • Independence: The farm offered a natural environment for students to practice independence — from making choices to managing routines and personal belongings.

  • Community Understanding: By meeting farm staff and learning about their roles, students developed a better understanding of food production, animal care, and environmental responsibility. The visit also reinforced values like respect, inclusion, and teamwork.

The Forge Mill Farm visit was enjoyable and educational, offering valuable real-world experiences that support communication, life skills, independence, and a stronger connection to the community.

Well done to all the students for representing the school so well — your behaviour, curiosity, and enthusiasm made us proud!
